Nurunnahar’s Journey: Empowering Change Through Sustainable Farming
Small steps toward a stronger, more secure livelihood.
In the heart of Khalilpur, 25-year-old Nuruunnahar is quietly transforming her life and her family’s future through sustainable, climate-resilient farming. Living with her husband, an auto-rickshaw driver, and their young child, she once depended solely on her husband’s modest income. Determined to create additional support for her family, she engaged with her local women’s group and sought guidance from the NJJ Project team.
With her prior experience in poultry rearing and newly gained training on climate-resilient farming, Nuruunnahar took a courageous step forward. With a small investment of 5,000 taka, she started her own poultry initiative by raising chickens and ducks and building a safe, climate-resilient shelter. Alongside this, she began cultivating vegetables around her home, following project guidance.
Today, her small initiative generates a steady income of around 800 taka per week. She has expanded her flock, improved her household nutrition and gradually repaid her initial support. Her earnings are not only improving daily life but also strengthening her long-term vision of stability and growth for her family.
Nuruunnahar expresses deep gratitude to the NJJ Project team, saying their guidance helped her build confidence and ensure the survival and growth of her livestock. She now dreams of expanding her farming activities further and improving her family’s living conditions.
Her journey reflects the power of knowledge, resilience, and community support—showing how even small opportunities, when guided well, can create lasting change in a woman’s life and inspire others in her community.
